Piano Studio
Located atop an ancestral apartment, this project embodies the legacy of a cherished family home. The owner,
a former music student at Indiana University turned piano teacher in Taiwan, seeks to infuse her studio with a nostalgic American essence. I aim to evoke her cherished memories through paint palettes, decorative accents, unique tiles, and even rare free-standing range, blending Taiwanese charm with her American experiences.
Capitalizing on the top-floor setting, the design integrates a captivating glass-iron window structure extending from the front to the skylight. This feature bathes the space in natural light, seamlessly intertwining indoor and outdoor areas. With a focus on creating a welcoming ambiance reminiscent of home, the studio is strategically divided into distinct sections—entrance, workspace, relaxation zone, piano concerto, dining, kitchen, bathroom, and a cozy retreat.
Preserving elements of the original house, I've ingeniously repurposed the workspace to incorporate the former window, now an artful framed view. Additionally, the bathroom's windows retain their original character, boasting refurbished old-fashioned wooden frames, traditional tenon locks, and patterned glass—a nostalgic touch within the renewed space.
